Residential Fire – 1007 S Locust Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded initially to the report of a dumpster on fire behind the apartment building at 1007 S Locust Street, Monday, May 14, 2018 at 12:03 p.m.  Prior to the Fire Department’s arrival on the scene, additional calls to 9-1-1 confirmed the fire was beginning to extend into the building, causing this to be upgraded to a working fire.

A passerby discovered the dumpster on fire behind the apartment building and called 9-1-1.  Firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed a single hose line to quickly extinguish the fire originating from the dumpster.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  There was minor damage to the vinyl siding on the apartment building with no smoke or fire damage inside the apartment units.  The cause of the fire will remain undetermined as investigators were unable to find what started the fire.
