Update – Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting – 300 block of N. Walnut St.

On August 20, 2017 at approximately 3:59 AM, Champaign Police responded to a public parking lot in the 300 Block of N. Walnut St., after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police found a 30-year-old male victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.  Officers on scene provided medical aid, and the victim was transported to Carle Hospital, but died a short time later.

During the course of the investigation, Champaign Police Detectives developed information that has led to the identity of a suspect. On August 20, 2017, an arrest warrant was issued for David D. Denson, a 28-year-old male from Champaign, for the offense of First Degree Murder. Bond on the warrant was set at $1,500,000.00.

At approximately 4:24 PM this afternoon, Champaign Police Detectives located Denson in the 1000 block of Smith Road in Urbana. Denson was placed under arrest without incident. He was remanded to the custody of the Champaign County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

Although an arrest has been made, this is still an active investigation. Champaign Police ask that anyone who has information regarding the shooting to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
