Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards to be Included in Immigrant Welcome Award Ceremony

The Cities of Champaign and Urbana are excited to announce a new collaboration with the CU Immigration Forum to co-sponsor the Immigrant Welcome Award Ceremony and Celebration. The event will be held September 23, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Muslim American Society Center (2011 Brownfield Rd, Urbana). This event is free and open to the public.

As part of this new collaboration, the Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards (CUIHA) are now included in the Immigrant Welcome Award Ceremony. Nominations are now being accepted to recognize those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to improve lives both here and around the world. To submit a nomination, visit immigration-forum.blogspot.com. The nomination deadline is September 1, 2017.

The Immigrant Welcome Award Ceremony will recognize individuals and groups in six categories, including Humanitarian Relief, Human Rights, Distinguished Leadership Service, Student Leadership, Community Impact, and Business Leadership. In past years, the Humanitarian Relief and Human Rights awards were presented during the CUIHA program.

“The merging of these similar award programs reaffirms Champaign-Urbana’s commitment to celebrating both local and international humanitarian efforts,” said Rachel Joy, Champaign’s Community Relations Manager and Compliance Officer. “Both Cities are looking forward to this new opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of local residents and organizations who are positively impacting lives both here and around the world.”

For the past 15 years, CUIHA has celebrated the achievements of Champaign County residents and organizations making significant contributions to international causes. The Cities of Champaign and Urbana look forward to continuing to honor and recognize the achievements of all past award winners, as well as those who remain committed to improving our global community.
