Arrest Made in April 3 Bank Robbery Investigation

Yesterday, at approximately 5:10 PM, Champaign Police Detectives, with the assistance of the Champaign Police SWAT Team, served a court authorized search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of N. Neil Street. After the residence was secured, Detectives placed Eric T. Motton, a 50-year-old male from Champaign, under arrest for the offense of Aggravated Robbery.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that on April 3, 2017, Motton entered Busey Bank, located at 2011 W. Springfield Ave., implied that he had a weapon and demanded money.  Motton then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of currency.

Several Crime Stoppers tips helped Detectives to identify and locate Motton, who is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections for a previous firearms offense.  Motton was arrested without incident and transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center.

Police continue to investigate this incident and ask that anyone with information contact the Champaign Police Department Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
