Residential Fire – 516 W Beardsley Avenue

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 516 W Beardsley Avenue, Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 5:46 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported a fire initially seen on the outside of the residence extending up into the attic.   Suppression efforts began immediately.

Twelve pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately 27 emergency response personnel responded from Champaign Fire and Pro Ambulance Service.  The seven occupants were not home at the time of the fire.  Fire crews had extinguished the fire by 6:17 p.m.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  The total damage estimate is $45,000 to the structure and $12,500 to contents.  Investigators continue to work at the scene to determine the cause.  The seven occupants have been displaced from the home.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
