City of Champaign Joins “Nextdoor”

Last week, the City of Champaign was approved for an agency account on the popular social media platform Nextdoor.  Nextdoor – a system that uses geographical areas to promote conversation between neighbors – has been increasingly used by Champaign residents, and currently has more than 5,200 members in the Champaign area.  The ability to communicate directly to targeted geographic areas of the City will be useful when communicating about neighborhood-specific projects and meetings.  As an agency, the City is able to interact with Champaign users through posts, messages, and special alerts. The City, however, cannot read or respond to specific conversations within localized neighborhood groups. The City made its first post to Nextdoor this week, (pictured below) in which Nextdoor users were informed about this limitation and encouraged to contact the City directly with questions or concerns.  To learn more about Nextdoor, visit nextdoor.com
