The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1318 Hedge Road, Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 9:04 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Suppression efforts began immediately.
Thirteen (13) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-seven (27) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire and Pro Ambulance. Occupants of the home discovered the fire in a bedroom. Fire crews entered the residence, and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was brought under control at 9:29 p.m. The total damage estimate is $25,000 structure and $2,500 contents. Investigators continue to work at the scene to determine the cause.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
