Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) Staff attended the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Martin Luther King (MLK) Neighborhood on Saturday, August 20. The MLK Neighborhood Association planned a day-long celebration including food, music, and fun activities to mark 30 years since the first house was built in the neighborhood. About 75 community members attended. Speeches were given by the Taylor Family – the first family to move into the development – and by Councilmember Michael LaDue.
Staff from Champaign Police, Champaign Fire, and Urbana Police also attended the event. They provided information resources and engaged with the neighborhood residents .NSD Coordination Staff also provided technical support to organize the event and support from the neighborhood small grant program to provide food, music, and family friendly games and activities.
