Neighborhood Services Department Staff assisted Timberline Valley South residents in hosting a kickoff meeting for their newly formed Neighborhood Watch Group. Approximately 30 residents attended the meeting to voice their concerns about an increase in crime in the area, including those related to auto burglaries and home break-ins. Champaign Police were also in attendance to encourage resident efforts to organize, to share information, and to offer steps residents could take to protect themselves and their property. NSD Coordination provided technical support and funding from the neighborhood small grant program to organize the meeting, and shared information concerning NSD resources, and the NeighborsofChampaign.com engagement platform. Councilmember Angie Brix was also in attendance and she thanked the residents for their engagement and offered the City’s support in their efforts to build neighborhood connections via the newly formed Neighborhood Watch Group.
