Community Coalition Hosts Dialogue on Community & Law Enforcement

On Wednesday, July 13, the Community Coalition changed its regular monthly meeting format to open up a dialogue between community members and local law enforcement. More than 100 people including concerned citizens, local law enforcement officials, and local service providers attended the meeting at the Champaign Public Library.

Also present was U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, Mr. Jim Lewis. Mr. Lewis said that initiatives such as CU Fresh Start – a community-led, focused approach to deter gun violence, which is steered by the Community Coalition – is the “best answer available” to address the gun violence epidemic in Champaign County.

The Community Coalition meets monthly on the second Wednesday at the Champaign Public Library’s main branch, Robeson Pavilion Rooms A & B, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM.
