Beginning Monday, June 1st, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will complete repairs to the Kirby Avenue and Bradley Avenue bridges over Interstate 57.
The Kirby Avenue/I-57 bridge project will replace a portion of a bridge fascia beam. One lane of Kirby Avenue will be closed and temporary traffic signals will be used for traffic control. One lane of I-57 northbound will be closed for the duration of the project. During one evening, both northbound lanes will be closed for 12 hours to remove the old beam and set a new fascia beam. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Monticello Rd/US 45/ Springfield Av/ Mattis Av back to I-57. The closure and detour are tentatively set for 7:00 PM Saturday, June 6th, through 7:00 AM Sunday, June 7th. IDOT expects the project to take about one week to complete.
The Bradley Avenue/I-57 bridge project will patch and replace the bridge surface. IDOT will utilize staged construction with temporary traffic signals to keep one lane of Bradley Avenue open to traffic at all times. A detour will not be necessary. The intent of this project is to improve the wearing surface and ride quality until complete structure replacement is realized. IDOT expects this project to take about two weeks to complete.
