Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Champaign Police Department
From May 9-26, 2014, IDOT supported law enforcement agencies, statewide, to remind motorists to buckle up, both day and night, during the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization. The Champaign Police Department joined other Illinois state and local law enforcement agencies in this annual effort to encourage more motorists and passengers to buckle up.
During the mobilization, the Champaign Police Department issued:
- 20 seat belt citations
- 1 suspended/revoked license citation
- 1 speeding citation
- 1 uninsured motorist citation
- 2 cell phone citations
- 7 citations for various other offenses
The annual Click It or Ticket mobilization may be over in Champaign, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt. “Our officers are out year-round enforcing seatbelt safety laws. If you or your passengers, in the front or back seats, are caught not wearing a seat belt, you could be cited for the safety violation,” says Sgt. Joe Ketchem.
Buckle up and encourage your loved ones to do the same. You will save the cost of a ticket and may save a life. For more information about the Click It or Ticket campaign, please visit www.buckleupillinois.org.
