On October 29, 2013, at approximately 1:38 PM, the Champaign Police Department responded to Central High School for a report of a fight.
Preliminary information indicates that a School Resource Officer responded to the gymnasium for a fight that was actively occurring. Upon arrival, the officer observed several students in the gymnasium watching a 16 and 18 year-old student engaged in a fist fight. The officer saw both students throwing punches at each other’s head and ordered them to stop the fight. The officer then issued repeated directives for both combatants to separate from one another. When neither student complied with his directives, the officer disbursed pepper spray foam at both parties in an attempt to separate them.
One 16 year-old student was arrested for his involvement in the fight and referred to the Youth Assessment Center for follow-up services.
