Carmike Beverly Theater, 910 Meijer Drive
Orpheum Children’s Museum, 346 N. Neil Street
Friday, two all-clear notices were issued at two separate locations in Champaign, in which police bomb technicians were summoned.
At 10:14 AM, Champaign police were dispatched to the Carmike Beverly Theater for generic bomb threats that were made to multiple Carmike Theaters across the country.
The caller did not specify which theaters were affected, and no information was received indicating that the Champaign location was targeted. As a precautionary measure, the Champaign Police Department evacuated approximately 20 employees from the theater and utilized a bomb-sniffing K-9 dog to assist with conducting a search of the building.
Champaign Police officers left the theater, around 1:00 PM this afternoon, after finding no evidence of danger.
While officers were responding to the bomb threat, a second call came in at 11:32 AM, notifying police of a large suitcase that had been left unattended on a sidewalk near the Orpheum Children’s Museum.
Again, officers utilized personnel from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and K-9 teams to assess the contents of the suitcase, which was later found to contain clothing. No explosive or dangerous materials were found at this scene.
