Champaign Police Reports Increase in Graffiti Vandalism

Over the past week, the Champaign Police Department has seen an increase in the number of reports taken involving criminal damage to property in the form of graffiti. These incidents are primarily occurring in the southwest area of the city during weekend and overnight hours.

Approximately twelve vehicle owners have reported having their cars spray painted. The cars were painted with mostly nondescript markings and fictitious phone numbers. One vehicle was painted with the letters “f u m”. The Champaign County Sherriff’s Office also received at least three similar reports during this same time frame, which may indicate a connection between these crimes.

  • 2400 block of Brett Dr.
  • 2500 block of Pinehurst Dr.
  • 2500 block of Waterville Dr.
  • 2600 block of Pine Valley Dr.
  • 2600 block of Southmoor Dr.
  • 2800 block of Willow Bend Rd.
  • 2900 block of Prairie Meadow Dr.
  • 2900 block of Sierra Dr.
  • 2900 block of Valleybrook Dr.
  • 2900 block of Wendover Pl.
  • 3100 block of Glenhill Pl.

Law enforcement agencies are urging residents to report any instances of property damage involving graffiti, or other unusual activity, to their local police department.
