PACA recently awarded the John Street Drainage Improvement Project with the 2012 Streetscaping Heritage Award for the use of permeable pavement systems to help control stormwater runoff. The project utilized permeable pavements along with other green infrastructure such as rain gardens to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff in the watershed. Permeable pavement was utilized along Lynn Street, Elm Street and at the driveway entrances at the Unit 4 Mellon Building along New Street. Project green improvements were funded by a grant and loan from the Illinois EPA.
