On Thursday, July 8, 2010, at approximately 10:24 p.m., Champaign police officers were dispatched to Carle Hospital’s Emergency Room in reference to a sexual assault victim.
A 22-year-old Urbana woman reported reading a book in Douglass Park on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 6:30 p.m., when she was approached by an unknown man who began a casual conversation with her. After 30 minutes had passed, the suspect invited the victim to his home. Shortly thereafter, he implied that he had a gun and ordered her to walk with him to an unknown apartment where he sexually assaulted her. The victim, being unfamiliar with the area, could not provide an exact location of the apartment and reports never actually seeing a weapon displayed by the suspect. The suspect left the apartment sometime before 8:55 p.m. The victim was then able to flee and went to Carle Hospital where police were later notified.
The suspect is described as a dark complected black male in his mid-twenties, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” tall, stocky build, with black hair worn in a ponytail.
He was wearing a black t-shirt and pants, which were possibly blue jeans. The victim stated the suspect spoke with a foreign or possibly Jamaican accent.
