The Neighborhood Services Department is excited to announce the 2010 Neighborhood Leaders Meeting as an upcoming opportunity for Champaign residents to be informed, get involved or stay connected. The Neighborhood Services Advisory Board will host the Annual Neighborhood Leaders Meeting on Wednesday, April 14th, at the Champaign Public Library, in Robeson Pavilion Rooms A, B and C, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. This meeting is open to the public, with a special invitation to the members of Champaign registered neighborhood groups. Registration is required by April 6, 2010. “LINKING OUR COMMUNITY” is the theme chosen for this year’s meeting.
New to this year’s meeting is the first Annual S.T.A.R. (Service Together Achieves Results) Awards Ceremony, presented by the Neighborhood Services Advisory Board (NSAB) in partnership with Dave Benton, WCIA Channel 3 News Anchor. The S.T.A.R. Awards Program will publicly acknowledge some of Champaign’s heroes who quietly make a difference in our neighborhoods and community. We consider the first nomination process a successful one with 38 nominations submitted to the NSAB for review. While the process formally recognizes winners in each of the six nomination categories, we consider every nominee a winner, as they each have exceeded ordinary expectations in service to our community. This is apparent from the civic contributions of those individuals who invested their time to prepare and submit nominations – they too are winners.
As with past meetings, participants will have an opportunity to interact with City Officials and get the latest information on key City projects and initiatives. This year’s meeting includes and information fair and the following express presentations: Problem Oriented Policing (Police); Fire Safety Message (Fire); the UC2B Big Broadband Project (Information Technology); and New Web-based Tools for Connecting with Community (Information Technology).
