About Vanna Pianfetti
I am the Champaign City Council Representative and Town Board Representative for District 5, which covers South and Southwest Champaign. I was elected to Council in 2017 and am serving my second term. I am also the Outreach Associate for Government Affairs for the University of Illinois Extension, College of ACES. My primarily responsibility is to serve as Director of the Illini Science Policy program. The Illini Science Policy Program is a unique post-graduate opportunity for students graduating from University of Illinois who are interested in University of Illinois Extension’s critical issue areas – food, economy, environment, community, and health – and the policy decisions affecting those resources. Previously, I was the District Engagement Coordinator for the IlliniCloud, an education cloud computing nonprofit cooperative. Prior to that, I was the Professional Development Coordinator for the Illinois Shared Learning Environment for the Illinois State Board of Education. Vanna also previously worked for the University of Illinois for more than 20 years, where she served as the Assistant Dean of Learning Technologies, the Director of the Office of Educational Technology (OET), and the Director of Operations and Emergent Technologies for the Center for Education in Small Urban Communities. I also was adjunct faculty with the Departments of Educational Psychology and Special Education, developing and teaching numerous online and face-to-face courses. My research interests include how technologies and digital media are changing the way we learn, how we learn, and where we learn. I am a Smithsonian Laureate for classroom innovation in technology. I have lived in Champaign for over 30 years, married to my husband Brian for 27 years and we are lovingly and adventurously raising our four children.
