About Shauna Clayborn
I’m a proud lifelong resident of Champaign and a devoted mom to my teenage daughter. I graduated from Central High School and earned my B.S. in Communications with a minor in Sociology from Illinois State University in 2002. I started my career in education as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher in Unit 4, then spent 15 years at the University of Illinois—10 of those years focused on communications and training for the Business and Finance units. During that time, I earned my MBA and transitioned into supplier diversity, where I helped small and diverse businesses grow and secure contracts across the state.
That passion for equity and opportunity continues in my current role leading procurement and DEI efforts at a public pension system. I also served three years on the YWCA Champaign County Board, finishing my term as Board President.
As a Council Member, I’m committed to listening, connecting residents to resources, and being a voice for those who may not feel heard. I bring experience in public procurement, economic development, and advocacy—and I care deeply about building a safer, more inclusive Champaign. In my free time, I love traveling, exploring new cultures, staying active, and making memories with my family and friends.
