About Bob Pollett
I was born in Springfield, Illinois, and moved around to different communities across Central Illinois while I was growing up. In 2006, I graduated from high school at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois. I then moved to Champaign to seek a Bachelor’s Degree in Math and Computer Science from UIUC. Upon graduating, I realized I didn’t ever want to leave Champaign, and I have proudly lived in the community ever since.
I worked for a decade at various Information Technology Help Desks on campus before taking a job as a Direct Digital Controls Programmer with the University’s Utilities and Energy Services Department in 2017. There, my colleagues and I were able to successfully organize their labor and collectively bargain with the University under UA Local 149. I’ve served as Shop Steward since the group negotiated its first collective bargaining agreement in 2023.
Having now lived more than half of my life in Champaign County, I decided to run for City Council and was elected to represent District 2 in Spring 2025. As a Council Member, my primary objective is to help make Champaign a safer place to travel, to grow up, and to grow old. When I’m not professionally tinkering on anything with a microchip, or perpetually upgrading my home office setup, I enjoy playing tabletop and video games with friends.
