The Champaign Police Department has launched an improved online reporting pilot program that will offer a fast and efficient way for community members to report crimes to police.
Historically, the police department offered a very limited online reporting option for individuals. The newly implemented software, powered by LexisNexis Risk Solutions, allows citizens to report more non-emergency crimes online rather than visit the department in person or have an officer dispatched to the location. This online reporting system allows you to submit a police report immediately and print a temporary copy of the report for free. Police will then determine the best course of action related to the report. You must have a valid email address to submit an online report.
The reports that can be submitted online include custody order violations, harassing phone calls, identity theft, lost property, theft, vehicle burglary, traffic complaints, and vandalism to include vehicle tampering.
“Many non-emergency crimes do not need an initial police response to be reported, and our new online reporting service will provide a more efficient manner for community members to report an incident and request police follow-up,” said Interim Chief of Police Matthew Henson. “This will help officers stay focused on the immediate needs of the community while still allowing individuals the option to submit a police report for review.”
The department anticipates it will continue to build its online reporting platform into a more robust system with additional non-emergency reporting options as it evaluates the success of the program.
