On October 20, 2021, at approximately 10:37 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of Kenwood Road for the report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old female with a life-threatening gunshot wound to her lower neck. Champaign Police and Champaign Fire rendered medical aid until the victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
The preliminary investigation indicates a dispute occurred in the courtyard area of an apartment complex that led to the victim being struck by a single round of gunfire.
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
