On May 10, 2021, at approximately 6:11 p.m., Champaign Police were called for multiple reports of shots fired. The first was reported in the 300 block of West Beardsley Avenue, soon followed by a report of shots fired in the area of North Market Street and Eisner Drive. Police were notified witnesses saw two vehicles chasing after one another with several rounds of gunfire heard from bystanders, ultimately leading police to outside of Marketplace Mall property.
Upon police arrival, officers learned two suspects abandoned their vehicle near Marketplace Mall and fled into a mall store for a brief period. Following immediate police action, the two suspects, Jeremiah Moore, 19, of Champaign, and Patrick Cross, 19, of Urbana, were arrested outside on mall property on weapons related offenses. Both males were in possession of firearms with extended magazines when they were apprehended. The vehicle they were driving was recovered by police and found to be damaged by gunfire.
Police located more than 25 spent shell casings on Market Street just south of the Salvation Army. No injuries have been reported to police in the incident. The second vehicle believed to have been involved is reported as a white car that was last seen driving northbound on Market Street.
Moore and Cross have been transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings.
