Homicide Investigation – 3000 Block of West William Street

On October 8, 2020, at approximately 2:06 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 3000 block of West William Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 29-year-old male laying in the middle of the roadway suffering from multiple, life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was believed to be on foot when the suspect(s) approached, fired multiple times striking him in the upper torso and then fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Any resident or business in the nearby areas with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
