The City of Champaign and the Champaign Park District are proud to announce a new partnership to honor those working tirelessly to improve our neighborhoods, parks, and community. The Champaign STAR Awards is an exciting new merger of the City’s STAR Awards and the Park District’s Champaign Park Honors programs. STAR stands for “Service Together Achieves Results,” and is also representative of the strong and longstanding collaboration between both agencies. The Champaign STAR Awards will merge these two popular community awards ceremonies, into one exciting new celebration.
The Champaign STAR Awards will be held on April 26, 2018, at the Virginia Theatre, 203 W Park Avenue, Champaign. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the award ceremony starting at 6:00 p.m. A reception will be held to honor the award recipients following the ceremony. This celebratory event is free and open to the public.
The Champaign STAR Awards will honor those who have gone above and beyond in service to our community, including:
· Exceptional individuals and groups that are dedicated to improving lives across the City’s diverse neighborhoods and community.
· Exemplary community members and volunteers who promote excellence in our parks, recreation, and cultural arts.
· Outstanding City and Park District employees who have been recognized for excellence by their peers.
The City of Champaign is now accepting nominations for Champaign STAR Awards in the following categories: Business-Neighborhood Partnership, Community Partner, Dave Benton Difference Maker, Good Neighbor, Neighborhood-Community Building, Neighborhood Leadership, Neighborhood of the Year, and Rising Star. Nominations for these prestigious awards can be submitted online at champaignil.gov/STAR through February 23, 2018.
The Champaign Park District is also accepting nominations for Champaign STAR Awards in the following categories: Youth Participant Award and Volunteer Coach Award. Nominations for these prestigious awards can be submitted online at champaignparks.com/vote through February 23, 2018.
