Champaign Police Conduct Death Investigation – UPDATE

On March 11, 2017 at 8:47 AM, Champaign Police officers responded to the Carle Hospital Emergency Department after receiving a report that Luke Miller, age 15, was receiving medical treatment for a serious medical condition. Luke was subsequently airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at 9:53 PM.

Today, an autopsy was performed by the Saint Louis City Medical Examiner’s Office. The results of the autopsy are pending additional laboratory analysis and testing. Until additional testing is complete, a determination as to whether the death was a result of a traumatic injury or medical issue is not possible. Therefore, no additional comment regarding the cause of death will be made at this time.

The death of Luke Miller remains an open, active investigation. Numerous tips and information have been provided to detectives, which has resulted in the identification of both factual and fictional information.
