Champaign Police Conduct Death Investigation

On March 11, 2017 at 8:47 AM, Police responded to the Carle Hospital Emergency Department on a report that Luke Miller, age 15, was receiving medical treatment. Luke was later airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at 9:53 PM. An autopsy will be conducted by the Saint Louis City Medical Examiner’s Office and is scheduled for 9:00 AM on March 13th, which will be attended by detectives from the Champaign Police Department.

Champaign Police currently have an active death investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Luke Miller. As such, it is anticipated that Champaign Police will have no further comment on this investigation until sometime after the autopsy has been completed.

Although preliminary information suggests this to be an isolated incident, additional Champaign Police officers will be present at Centennial to speak with students and assist with ensuring the safety of students throughout the day.
