Champaign Police Release Results from Results from March Traffic Enforcement Campaign

The Champaign Police Department conducted a March traffic campaign to address the potential impacts of impaired driving. The enforcement effort ran from March 13 through 23, 2026. It was conducted by Champaign Police in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort to increase safety on the roads.

During the campaign, Champaign Police committed officers to twenty hours of grant-funded enforcement with a focus on arterial routes, especially in areas where they impact neighborhoods. This was in addition to routine proactivity by on-duty officers. These efforts by Champaign Police yielded:

  • 9 citations for moving violations
  • 3 citations for expired registration
  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 1 citation for improper transportation of alcohol
  • 1 citation for an equipment violation on a vehicle
  • 1 citation for driving without a valid license

This campaign was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
