The Champaign Fire Department and Champaign’s Equity & Engagement Department had an incredible morning on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in the Edgebrook Neighborhood, connecting with residents while sharing fire safety education and prevention resources. Our team installed 28 smoke alarms across 7 homes and tested alarms in several others, helping make the community safer one house at a time.
The day was especially meaningful as we honored and remembered Christian Sheehan on what would have been his 33rd birthday. We are deeply grateful to the Sheehan family for transforming their loss into a powerful mission to support our community through the installation of working smoke alarms. For more than a decade, Christian Sheehan Smoke Alarm Foundation has played a vital role in helping protect local families.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Senator Paul Faraci and the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois for their generous support. Their grant funded the Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) that allows our team to move efficiently and safely throughout the neighborhood, making efforts like this possible.
