Champaign Police were dispatched at 12:34 a.m. on June 27, 2024, to the 700 Block of Mattis Avenue for a report of a Shooting with Injuries. On arrival, officers located a 25-year-old male victim from Champaign with potentially life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds to the upper leg. Officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department immediately rendered medical aid until the man could be transported to an area hospital. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the man was standing in the courtyard of his apartment complex when an unknown man approached him and opened fire before leaving the scene. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
