The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire in the 800 block of South Mattis Ave., Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 3:42 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found smoke and flames coming the roof of a three-story multifamily apartment building. Crews quickly deployed multiple hose lines inside and outside of the building and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to one building and one apartment in that building will be uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Champaign Fire Department reminds residents to have working smoke detectors in all areas of the house.
