On December 10, 2022, the Equity and Engagement Department, in partnership with the University of Illinois’s Community Compact, hosted a Community Conversations event titled “Addressing Economic Development and Minority and Women Owned Business Initiatives in Champaign County.” This meeting brought together more than 40 stakeholders from across the community, the University of Illinois, local business owners, and grant-making organizations. The event featured a panel of local minority entrepreneurs who discussed their background, how they became business owners, and challenges they’ve faced along the way. The event welcomed open discussion among participants to express what their desires for the future are and what action should be taken moving forward.
