On April 18, 2026, community partners – including the City of Champaign, Champaign Park District, City of Urbana, Urbana Park District, U of I, and Village of Savoy – hosted a successful cleanup event. A total of 338 volunteers removed litter across 1,000 acres, collecting 65 cubic yards of trash and cleaning 2.5 miles of shoreline. Public Works and Neighborhood Services staff helped lead efforts at Interstate Drive and the Ashland Park subdivision, while more than 100 volunteers worked at Scott Park and along the Boneyard Creek.
