City Supports Courage Connection “Breaking the Cycle”

On February 25, 2026, the Champaign County Community Coalition, in partnership with Courage Connection, hosted the “Breaking the Cycle – Town Hall Event.”

City Councilmember Bob Pollett and Deputy City Manager Christopher Walton attended, demonstrating the City’s leadership presence and commitment to addressing issues impacting local youth and families.

The community forum brought together residents, local leaders, educators, parents, and youth for meaningful dialogue in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The event focused on raising awareness, sharing available resources, and discussing prevention strategies aimed at breaking cycles of abuse and promoting healthy relationships among young people.

Community Relations Managers Tracy Parsons facilitated the event, guiding discussion and fostering community engagement, while Jorge Elvir served as a panelist, contributing his expertise to the conversation. Lieutenant Kaitlin Fisher attended, representing the Champaign Police Department. Members of the Equity and Engagement Department, including Director Rachel Joy, Clinical Manager Regina Parnell, Behavioral Health Advocates Jorge Elvir, Jr., Jaime Essien, Destiny Gidron, and Ethel Arauz, Justice Victim Advocate Angela Worthey, and Community Relations Specialists Mikal Washington and Betsy Barclay were also present and active at the event, reflecting the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting youth and promoting safe, healthy relationships.
