The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a multi-family apartment building in the 700 block of S. Mattis Ave., Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:21 p.m. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a dryer in this two-story apartment building. Once on the scene, crews reported smoke coming from a basement laundry room. Firefighters extinguished this small fire using fire extinguishers.
The cause of this fire that began in the dryer vent is accidental. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported.
