City Staff Attend the Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment Conference

From April 8–11, 2025, Community Relations Specialists, Betsy Barclay and Mikal Washington, (Equity and Engagement Department) attended the 8th Annual Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment (CREA) Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Hosted by the University of Illinois College of Education, the four-day event brought together scholars and community leaders from across the country to engage in meaningful dialogue around equity in evaluation and assessment practices.
The conference offered a variety of sessions focused on the integration of cultural responsiveness into evaluative practices, providing City staff with an opportunity to strengthen their approach to equitable community engagement. This year’s theme, “Relational Responsibilities,” emphasized the importance of building and sustaining relationships. Thus, highlighting the ethical and cultural responsibility needed when working with diverse communities. Barclay and Washington’s participation reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to equity-centered practices and continuous learning in support of more inclusive and responsive public service.
