The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a residence in the 1400 block of W. Clark St., Monday, December 2, 2024, at 11:12 a.m. Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Firefighters responded to a report from a passerby of a fire in the single-family home. Once on the scene, crews reported moderate smoke and fire coming from the single-story building. Firefighters deployed a single hose line into the residence and were able to extinguish the fire.
The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter injuries reported. The occupant of the residence was not home at the time of the fire. Two dogs perished in the fire.
Remember, when the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. If you must escape through smoke, stay low to the ground. Try to close doors behind you as you leave, to help slow the spread of smoke and fire, and help others exit.
