Death Investigation – 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive

The Champaign Police Department was dispatched at 5:19 p.m. on November 16, 2024, to the 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive for a domestic disturbance. On-scene, they located a 71-year-old Champaign man in his home who was non-responsive with a potentially life-threatening stab wound. Officers and personnel with the Champaign Fire Department immediately began administering lifesaving measures, but sadly, they were unable to revive the man. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The initial investigation indicated that the man had been involved in a domestic altercation with 67-year-old Dewandee Carter of Champaign when she stabbed him in the chest. For her role in this incident, Carter was arrested pending charges. Officers remained on-scene for several hours to investigate this incident, including processing evidence in the residence and a canvass of the surrounding area for witnesses and any video footage that may be of investigative assistance.

Even though an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Champaign Police ask that anyone who has additional information please call 217-351-4545.
