On April 17, 2024, staff from the Equity and Engagement Department presented at Keller Williams Real Estate about the City’s Human Rights Ordinance and how it comes to play in fair housing. Community Relations Manager, Janel Gomez, begin with an overview of what the department does as whole before going more in depth into her specific division. She covered what the protected classes are within the City and recent updates at the state level. She discussed fair housing on a broader level and department intern, Tamara Trejo, reviewed the federal Americans for Disabilities Act and reasonable accommodations. Participants were most excited about real world citizen complaint cases and how to navigate these kinds of issues. More than 25 real estate staff were in attendance and they expressed interest in additional workshops from the department.
