Community Leaders Excited to Welcome 2024 Illinois Race Weekend Participants

(Full Marathon Returns with New Route Through Champaign, Urbana, and Savoy)

The Cities of Champaign and Urbana, the Village of Savoy, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District are eager to welcome thousands of race participants and fans into our community for the upcoming 2024 Illinois Christie Clinic Race Weekend April 25-27. A great source of community pride, the Illinois Race Weekend also has a significant impact on the local economy with visitors staying in area hotels, dining at local restaurants, and supporting our other small businesses. Residents are encouraged to get out and cheer on the runners or volunteer to help ensure a safe and fun experience for race participants.

With the influx of out-of-town visitors and the need to ensure runner safety, the Illinois Race Weekend may cause a few disruptions to residents’ normal weekend routines. This includes an impact on traffic due to road closures and the need to temporarily change bus routes. Race organizers are working closely with local officials to minimize these disruptions while also ensuring the safety of runners, volunteers, and fans. Race organizers have prepared information to keep residents informed, including information on how to navigate around town to avoid race-related road closures. For all things Illinois Race Weekend related, please visit IllinoisMarathon.com. On this website you can review the weekend event schedule, race route maps, tips to help motorists traveling around the course, course impact times, and even opportunities for you to volunteer and get involved.

This year we’re excited to welcome the return of the full marathon — featuring a brand new course. This year marathoners will run through Urbana, Champaign, and Savoy before racing back to the U. of I. to the finish line inside Memorial Stadium. Residents and businesses along Prospect Avenue south of Armory Avenue, as well as neighborhoods in Savoy, are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new marathon route.

Additional information about the timing of road closures and bus reroutes will be shared by local agencies in advance of race weekend.
