City of Champaign Law Clerks, Chloe Porath, Morgan Knight, and Bobby Mannis, and Deputy City Attorney, Jennifer Bannon, gave a presentation about municipal law at the University of Illinois College of Law on January 29, 2024. The presentation was intended to educate students about careers in local government law and to encourage students to apply to be law clerks with the City of Champaign Legal Department for Summer 2024 and the 2024-2025 school year.
The Legal Department received an excellent pool of applications as a result of the presentation. Law clerks perform legal research, draft legal memoranda and pleadings, and can even appear in court under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Their highly valuable legal research supports Legal Department attorneys in advising City departments and defending the City in legal proceedings.
