Code Compliance Update

The Code Compliance Division of the Neighborhood Services Department continued to receive a high number of tenant inspection requests and housing inspection cases in 2023.  This continues a trend that began in 2021.  Tenant inspection requests are requests for inspection from tenants in rental units.  Housing inspection cases include exterior structure complaints, fire damaged properties, and referrals from the Fire Department for other issues that were observed (such as carbon monoxide issues, fire alarm issues, or frozen/leaking pipes).

2022 and 2023 saw a large number of tenant inspection requests and housing inspection cases from the Champaign Park Apartment (CPA) complex.  Even when removing the CPA cases from the tenant inspection requests and housing inspection cases, the number of cases is nearly double the ten-year average from 2011-2020 for tenant inspection cases and more than double the ten-year average for housing inspection cases.

The month of January has historically been a relatively slow month for tenant inspection requests.  January 2023 and January 2024 have had large numbers of tenant inspection requests.  Even when taking out the tenant inspection requests from the Champaign Park Apartment (CPA) Complex the number of tenant inspection requests is more than double the five-year average from 2018 to 2022.
