On September 30, 2023, the City of Champaign joined the CU Pride Fest and Parade to celebrate everything that makes us fabulous! Council members, Alicia Beck, Matthew Gladney, Kathy Shannon, Michael Foellmer and City Staff from the Equity & Engagement Department, Public Works, Neighborhood Services Department, and Planning Department all came out to walk in the Parade. The weather was HOT but spirits were high as the City celebrated the pride and visibility of the LGBTQ+ communities in Champaign County! Thank you to all of those that walked in the parade or visited the City’s pride booth.
City staff handed out information on the Champaign Human Rights Ordinance, as well as information on programs to elevate small and minority business in the area, including the Champaign Diversity Advancement Program and the Designated Procurement Initiative. Staff were also registered people to receive City notifications and newsletters. Many of people who visited the City of Champaign Booth walked away not only with City information but City pride stickers, sunglasses and LED light up bracelets.
