As we prepare for the school year, the Champaign Police Department has joined several area school supply events to ensure that Champaign students have everything they need to get underway.
From July 11 to August 7, 2023, CPD hosted a collection box for the Y on the Fly Backpack Collection Drive. During this four-week drive, the community filled the box with supplies, backpacks, and classroom items that will be given to Y on the Fly participants.
On August 8, 2023, CPD staff joined Unit 4 Schools for their Back-to-School Giveaway event at Marketplace Mall. Chief Tyler was joined by Lt. Newell, Lt. Manzana, and Assistant to the Chief Joe Lamberson to give out nearly 1,000 school supply items, including folders, notebooks, boxes of crayons, and pencils. After the items were all gone, CPD stayed to engage and share important messaging about bullying and child safety tips.
Champaign Police are working hard to ensure that our students are ready for the school year, and look forward to more opportunities for engagement as we enter the fall!
