Apartment Fire – 11 E. Columbia Ave.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a multi-family apartment building at 11 E. Columbia Ave., Friday, June 23, 2023, at 4:46 p.m. Fire crews worked to keep this fire contained to a single apartment unit.

Firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at this five-story building. Once on the scene, fire crews reported moderate smoke and fire coming from a fourth-floor unit. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second-alarm. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and worked to extinguish the fire.

The cause of this fire has not been determined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. Investigators have determined the fire started in a fourth-floor unit. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants of this 32-unit building will be displaced because of this fire.
