April 14,2023, Community Relations Manager for the Department of Equity and Engagement, Jorge Elvir, spoke at the weekly Friday Forum. These forums allow attendees to hear from community leaders tackling our most pressing public concerns through an unwavering pursuit of social justice. Jorge presented on Community Violence and Anti-Violence Efforts being pursued by the City and its partnering organizations. Attendees are able to discuss with one another, as well as the speaker, after the presentation creating an open atmosphere for dialogue around these important issues.
This event is sponsored by University YMCA and Diversity & Social Justice Education, and moderated by Sam Smith, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts for the purpose of demonstrating our Community in Action and Advancing Social Justice in Urbana and Champaign. As the YMCA enters the 150th year of the University YMCA, there is considerable amount of excitement to present this 96th season of Friday Forum.
