Registered Neighborhood Group Engagement

Bristol Park Residents Committee group met with Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) staff and developer Jim Roberts on April 4, 2023, to reconnect and discuss neighborhood improvement and maintenance efforts. The group heard from the developer regarding the Good Steward program that provides residents yearly contributions towards the purchase of their home in the neighborhood. Residents also shared their ideas for neighborhood programming and discussed summer engagement activities to get more participation. The group will be utilizing neighborhood small grant funds to host a neighborhood cleanup event on April 22, 2023, and plans to meet again in May to prepare for a social event in June.

BPM2 neighbors met with NSD staff on April 10, 2023, to plan a neighborhood cleanup event and a neighborhood organizing initiative with the Fire Department and NSD to address fire safety in their neighborhood. Fire Inspector Jeremy Mitchell attended the meeting to share fire education and safety information. The residents were excited to hear about the smoke detector blitz planned for their neighborhood in September. The group will be utilizing a Neighborhood Small Grant to host a neighborhood cleanup event on April 29, 2023, and plans to meet again next month to organize a summer social event.

Karla Condos recently became a newly registered neighborhood group. Karla Condos is a development of 87 condominium units located in Northwest Champaign across from Parkland College. The group is excited about the growth and changes in the area and wants to ensure their neighborhood is well maintained and safe. Members of the group met on April 13, 2023, to discuss applying for a Neighborhood Small Grant to host neighborhood cleanup for May. The event will be used to reconnect and reengage neighbors.

The Neighborhood Co-Labourers Community registered group completed a neighborhood cleanup event on April 14, 2023, utilizing Neighborhood Small Grant funds. Neighborhood residents and volunteers organized a cleanup event to address ongoing neighborhood concerns related to neighborhood cleanliness. Volunteers assisted elderly neighbors throughout the neighborhood with loading and discarding unwanted household bulk items. The neighborhood volunteers will host a neighborhood cookout and social event on April 15, 2023, to promote and encourage community unity.
