The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire inside an attached garage at 1524 Harrington Dr., Sunday, April 2 at 1:39 p.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in this single-family residence.
Firefighters responded to a report from an occupant of a fire in the garage of this single-story home. Once on the scene, firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the garage. Crews deployed a single hose line to quickly extinguish the fire contained to the garage.
The cause of this fire is accidental and has been attributed to the improper disposal of smoking materials. There were no firefighter or occupant injuries reported. The occupants will not be displaced because of the fire.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
