The Champaign Fire Department hosted the annual Edward M. Hoffman Memorial Awards Ceremony at Fire Station 1 on Monday, March 27. The event honored residents and members of ambulance services, Champaign Firefighters, and Champaign Police Officers that have displayed exemplary service to those they serve and protect. Firefighters and Building Safety personnel recently hired or promoted were presented their badges by family and friends.
A memorial locker was unveiled to pay tribute to Edward Hoffman, a Champaign firefighter who died in the line of duty on March 5, 1960. His sacrifice will be forever remembered, and this locker will serve as a reminder as it has now been placed in the fire station 1 foyer where firefighters pass reporting for duty every morning.
